Coffee of the Year

Peet’s Coffee and Tea definitely gets my vote for coffee of the year. I love a good cup of joe and for me, few do it better than Peet’s. All of their coffee’s are dark roasted and full of flavor. If you want coffee that doesn’t taste like coffee than i suggest taking a trip down the street to your neighborhood starbucks and picking up a froo froo drink for yourself. If you want some of the fullest flavored coffee that goes down smooth then head to Peet’s. You won’t see them around everywhere but they are definitely worth searching out and stopping by.

If you are curious than you should for sure check out peets.com

They Can’t Be Serious

But…..they are. I headed out to Ikea today, at the constant beckoning for a ride. I use to love going to Ikea to walk around the store and pick up a bag full of goodies that I really had no need or use for. But, that is the fun of Ikea. However, and you had to know there was a however here, today was not the same Ikea that I remember visiting. I had a bag but it was not getting filled up with goodies. I did end up buying a few things. They are sneaky like that. They have these cool looking cheap products in the middle of the walk ways. Who doesn’t need a little round rug to go in front of their door and who doesn’t need a wisk or a milk frother. I don’t even drink milk or soy milk in any form that would even need a frother but, like a good capitalist, I still got one.

Even though I got these three great buys, it wasn’t the same Ikea. Maybe it’s my aging and my ever growing cheapness. I hadn’t figured out what was different and then I figured it out once I arrived at the checkout. (I of course used the self checkout) At the end of checking out it asked me how many bags I needed. What? Huh? What’s going on here? Why are they asking me how many bags I needed and planned on using? Well, after looking around in bewilderment for a few seconds, the answer presented itself. You have to pay $0.05 for each bag that you use! They are using the notion that it is saving the earth. Well, if you are going to save the earth than you should let people spend $0.50 for a cotton bag or some bag that is a little more friendly than plastic. I couldn’t believe it. What has the world come to that I now have to purchase the plastic bags that I take my goods home in? There are plenty of stores that allow you to purchase re-usable bags if you are environmentally conscience, but to have to pay for the little cheap plastic bags is insane.

Something a Little Different

I have recently grown a little weary of myspace and facebook. I’m not exactly sure what has led to this but, I have decided to embrace it and try out something new that I will undoubtedly tire of sooner or later. Perhaps its the way the world works. Some new thing comes along and it catches our attention for a while and then after you get use to going there all of the time, you wake up and for whatever reason don’t feel like doing that as religiously as you once did. It has lost some of it’s luster. This same thing that once allowed you hours of endless entertainment has turned into something you do out of habit and don’t look forward to as much as you once may have.

So today Apple put in the paperwork for a patent on new technology that would allow you to not have to wait in line at Starbucks and fast food restaurants. You could order ahead with your cell phone, Ipod or some other digital device and it would alert you when it was ready so that you could just stop by and pick it up. Don’t get me wrong. I think this is brilliant and if/when they do come out with this, I will definitely be taking advantage of such technology. However, in the same breath, I find this a bit ridiculous. What happened to the days when you made a phone call for your friend to meet you at the coffee shop. The days when you planned to stand in line so that you could sit down and enjoy each others conversation and the occasional “EV” moment. But then, lets go back to the fact that I also think this is a brilliant idea. Who wouldn’t want to order a head, on their way to work and have their coffee waiting for them. Once again, Apple hits a home run with innovation.
