springtime baseball

Following up on my comments about baseball and warm weather.  I would just like to concur with myself on that.  Yeah, that’s right.  I did just say that. I went to the Cubs game last night and I had to wear layers!  I can’t remember the last time that I had to wear a coat to a baseball game (cubs either don’t make it or I can’t afford playoff baseball).  It was a good game and I had a great time, but I’m sticking to my idea: shorten the season by 20 games and start in warmer weather(a majority of people don’t hardly realize when baseball season starts anyway. “it’s baseball season already?”).  Fans are happy, players are happy and I am happy.  To quote The Office “that’s the best option…it’s a win, win, win situation…everyone wins”.  Reds vs. Cubs, Wrigley Field

back from sabbatical

I’ve been away from here for so long that I will go ahead and call it that.  It can’t be a break.  Now that I have returned it can’t be a retirement.  Plus had it been a retirement, I would have gone away with more fanfare. So…

What’s happened during this “sabbatical”?

I have seen a few very awesome concerts.  The top of which is definitely seeing Valery Gergiev conduct the London Symphony Orchestra. Wow, that was completely spectacular.  That was a Prokofiev 5th Symphony that sets a high standard for all other performances to look up to.

The Cubs have started playing baseball again.  That shows exactly how long I have been gone.  Now I have a few thoughts on this.  If I were still living in Tucson I would have no problems with baseball season starting in early April.  Living in Chicago, I have to say that baseball should not start until June 1.  When the baseball season started, I was still wearing my winter coat.  What?!!?  Now, let’s think about the positives about starting baseball on June 1.  There are 160 some odd games that each team plays during the season.  So what if you take away 20-30 games, because you still have 130-140 games for the year.  Is anyone really going to complain about those games that they don’t watch anyway?  Is anyone really going to complain about being able to go to opening day it shorts, and not be an ice statue at the end of the game?

Stay tuned…
