For two weeks running, the Home & Garden section of the newspaper has been one of the more entertaining. This weeks feature article “5 things to know about buying a toilet” was a great follow-up to “How to choose a rake that’s right for you”.

1. “Measure”… This is pretty self-explanatory, no need to elaborate.

2. “Two-piece or one-piece?”…hahaha! Just so you know, “One-pice toilets are generally lower and sleeker…and often have more complex mechanisms.” Incase you were thinking of installing a toilet by yourself, the article warned that a one-piece is not a do-it-yourselfer job.

3. “Enough oomph”…very important. Does your toilet have enough oomph?

4. “But will it clog?”…yep

5. “Form versus function”…it is warned not to pick a toilet just for it’s look. You must make sure that there is function. This is especially important when buying designer toilets.

So I’ve decided that laundry is this weird thing. I’m not gonna go out on any limb and say good or bad. The middle, ever so non-descript, weird road. Everyone likes to have clean laundry. In fact, I think you would be hard pressed to find a person who wouldn’t mind always having clean clothes waiting for them and never having to have dirty ones to worry about.

Let’s not get sidetracked in a world of “that would be great” and “I wishes”. Laundry is not hard, it just takes an effort. *see foot note* Because of this effort, I typically wait until there is a considerable pile of laundry before any effort is undertaken.

Once you have arrived at a laundry facility, the road becomes smooth. This is the easy part. You simply just have to put everything in and let the scrubbing commence. This is particularly fun when using front loading machines. You can see the action taking place. Now, I have an unbiased view towards drying. It is what it is.

However, once the drying is finished, the road turns to hell. I hate folding. In fact, this very blog came about because I am staring at a pile of clean clothes that have been on my floor for over a week. It would take me 10 minutes to fold them all and put them away, but for whatever reason, they remain on the floor.

*We are talking about laundry that is not in your house/apt. This is laundry that has to be schlepped down stairs, across roads or driven to laundry mats.

Today made history. I now have a driver license other than one from Wisconsin for the first time. I headed on over to the Secretary of State branch in Deerfield. Yeah, I find it a little weird that they aren’t called DMV’s or MVD’s or any other combination of the the three letters. Not only did I get an Illinois license, but I was able to register to vote and make sure that I was an organ donor all at the same time. Now that’s what I call a very productive lunch hour.

Let’s back up and get a little detail on the process. I decided that an early lunch would be the only way to go. Licensing centers are notorious for long waits. What do you know, the plan paid off. I alerted the first station guy that I was there to get an Illinois DL and that I currently had one from WI. He gave me a number, of course, after I had proven that I had the proper paperwork. (4 forms of identification)

As soon as I received my number, it was called and off to station number 9 I headed. Now the guy there stared at my WI DL for quite a long perioed of time. and then he went back to staring at his computer. I don’t think he was doing anything other than merely catching a quick break. Perhaps he was finishing up the latest article from espn.com. He got all my correct information, got me registered to vote and sent me off to the next station.

Since I was getting an IL DL for the first time, I was required to take a written test. 20 multiple choice questions and 15 signs. I will have you all know that I only missed 2. (For those that don’t have the time to do the math, that would be a big 33 out of 35 or…94%) When I took the test back up, the lady graded the test and then looked at me and said “very excellent”. So, I patted myself on the back and moved on. But wait, I don’t have my WI DL? I looked at the lady who graded my test as she was taking away my WI DL!!! It was a very sad moment. I believe that as the moment passed before me in the slowest of motions, a single tear ran down my face as I was never to see my WI DL again.

Needless to say, I pressed on like a trooper. Off I went to the final station. I was beginning to feel as though I had conquered this combatant zone. The final step was the picture step. My name was called, well, something that I guess was suppose to resemble my name. “R. Isaiaick Sinnett”, was what the lady said. (don’t worry, if you can’t make it out phonetically, I can’t either) I went up there and chatted with the picture lady for a while. I was beginning to make a few friends. She takes my picture. They do a superb job there. I have a tan on this picture that any fake’n'bake would be jealous off. I was laughing so hard they must’ve thought I’d finally lost it. Perhaps I had.

In the end, I have a IL-DL. Now, off to get some IL plates.

Unfortunately I had my funk on today and it was not the good kind. I was in a funk and I really didn’t know why. It came and went with the change of wind. It was strange. It is one of those things that inexplicably happens from time to time. It’s like the stomach flu, you ride the ups and downs until the funk has passed. Well, the funk has passed. I figured out what it was. Life has finally slowed down enough to let me realize how much I miss everybody. I miss living in Tucson and hanging out with Dave and Chelsea every day. I miss living in Michigan and hanging out with Andriy, Sean and Aaron all the time. I miss coming home to my apartment and laughing my ass off with Sir Dude.

I was driving home and trying to think of something that I could blog about. I typically blog about something that I have witnessed, read or randomly thought about. Today, I drew blanks. I need to get back to seeing EV in the world. For those of you who don’t remember what EV stands for, that would be Entertainment Value. EV is really the greatest weapon that one can have in their arsenal for enjoying life. Life is fun and crazy. It just happens to throw you a few kinks every now and again. No problem. They pass.

I need to post more. I keep saying this, but then I keep not doing it. A lot of things are happening but, perhaps I feel that they are not blog worthy? I’m busy. However, almost exclusively with work. Well, that might be a bit of an overstatement, but not by much. The great thing about this summer is that I am having a large number of visitors coming through Chicago. This has been great! For the 4th of July, I went to Michigan where I spent an incredibly relaxing 3 days. We played golf and just plain hung out. It was exactly what I needed after being in the non-stop go mode of work and city. It’s easy to get carried away with work and forget about the fact that I’m still young and need to take the time to enjoy the free time that I do have. I don’t what to be old one day and say “I wish I would’ve taken a little more time.” I want to be old and cruising around with Dave and everybody else.

The other night I was fortunate enough to be able to take in a concert of the Swell Season and it was fantastic. For those of you who don’t know who the swell season are, they are the people from the movie Once with some of his other band members from the Frames. If you don’t know what Once is, then I suggest that you put it at the top of your Netflix queue. If you still haven’t figured out that Netflix is the way to go, I feel for you. Never-the-less, head down to your local Blockbuster and pick it up. The movie is great and the music is awesome!

It has been so long since I have blogged that I have forgotten what I’ve blogged about. Work, in the month of May, was out of control busy, but extremely successful. June has been a bit more relaxed, but still busy. I wonder how many more sentences I can have in a row with comma followed by a but, but not let it get monotonous. Ok, I’m pretty sure that I may be the only person laughing at this point, but since I am laughing, it must continue. Nope, never mind, I’m over it.

I feel as though I should blog and I know that I want to blog, so what then is the problem. The problem is not only the ever mounting weight of the eyelids coupled by the over present nagging of the work, placed directly behind this blog, staring through the page. Why is that? Why can one not take a single break. Not just a single break. An innocent, non-committal break. A time where the brain stops thinking about work and starts thinking about……. hmmm……Denmark! But again, Why? Well, I’m very glad that you have inquired. Simply for the fact that Denmark is apparently the happiest place in the world to live. This I will have to check out for myself. Those up for the trek, just let me know. Until next time, think, eat and sleep ……happiness.
