We are now officially into the holiday swing and I thought that it was time to stop being so lazy and get back to my site. I’ve thought about writing for a while but my laziness has won that battle. However, I have won the battle today and here I am. Turkey day was another success this year. I must say that I had a really relaxing and much needed break over the past four days. Everything was getting to be a bit overwhelming. The time to relax always helps keep things in perspective….

There has been a lot that has happened since I’ve been away so I’ll be back with more updates…

By pure happenstance I saw something last night that really shocked me to the core. (perhaps a little over dramatic) Anyway, let’s get to the point. I had arrived home from work last night and was just relaxing on the couch, watching a little tv. As always, I get the coffee ready the night before so that it is piping hot and ready for me when I wake up in the morning. Well, in the middle of making my coffee I realized that I was out of coffee filters. This did put me in a dilemma and certainly did not please me. I didn’t want to buy coffee in the morning and I didn’t want to go down to Jewel and buy filters then. However, I did end up going to buy the coffee filters. On the way back I realized that the lights were on in the just recently closed Dunkin Donuts. Hmmm? This seems a bit odd. So I look a little closer and there are people inside the store! This DD was closed for bug infestation and they have already been granted permission to reopen? No no no. You have bug infestation, they close you down for three-four days and then you are open again. I felt like being one of those people standing outside the DD with a sign and protesting the entrance of any more customers. Needless to say, I personally will not be visiting this Dunkin for a good long time. Between the bugs and my ire towards the people who seem like they sort of work there, this place is not for me.

Recall those commercials telling us that America runs on Duncan. Well, in Chicago this is definitely a true statement. You can’t go anywhere in Chicago and not run across a good ‘ole DD. In fact, yesterday we went from my house to get some lunch and ran across 3 DD. More than that, who can deny enjoying the occaisional stop to pick up some coffee and a couple of doughnuts.

Well, just last week the DD down the street from me was shut down. The health inspectors came in and found the place with nearly 200 “flying insects”. I have no idea what that means, but its something that I want absolutely no part of. It was reported that they were everywhere, including where the doughnuts and bagels are kept. Uh…! So with Friday off thanks to the celebration of Uncle Sam’s birthday I decided that nothing could be a better use of time and provide more entertainment than walking the almost 2 blocks to check this out. Upon approaching the shop, I saw that there was caution tape all around the drive. Now you’ll notice that there is a sign on the door. “Closed for construction” is what it reads. Uh…? I believe that the owners of this particular franchise are trying to fool us here. Um, that would be a no go. Upon walking a few more feet I discovered the sign that needs to be seen. A bright green sign that states “License Revoked”. But, don’t worry, they tried to draw your attention away from that with another sign that said “Closed for Construction”. Let me just finish by saying that this DD is just over a year old. I have always complained about their service at this particular establishment, but this by far, crushes anything that I’ve said about it.

Sleep is currently evading me and to help the situation I thought that I would try to figure out this tree. On Sunday I was taking a nice walk back form Nick and Murrae-Anne’s and this tree was on the walk. Very intriguing to the say the least. Also very baffling. This was suppose to be an exercise similar to counting sheep (which has never worked for me. perhaps because of the lack of sheep in my room?), but it has turned itself into this awesome, mind-blowing blog…ummm….maybe it is working.

Enough. Enjoy the tree.

Two brake lights and two wiper blades later and you can just attach the title of Mr. Handyman to my name. Ok, so that might be a bit on the exaggerated side, but I was definitely pleased. While I’m defintely no real handyman, I can check off oil/filter change, air filter change, wiper blades, brake lights and tire change to my list of accomplishments. Let’s not forget the countless hours that I have stood around watching other people fix my car. That has to count for something. If you count all of those times, then I have basically torn apart and put together a car. Impressive, I know!

Sorry, I had to take a moment for myself to have a good laugh. The other commercials were creative, but that is by far the best The Most Interesting Man in the World commercial.
